SUMMARY:U of MN Drive & Thrive: Confidence with Tractors\, Trucks & Trailers-Owatonna and Crookston
DESCRIPTION:Drive & Thrive: Confidence with Tractors\, Trucks & Trailers\nUniversity of Minnesota Extension will offer Drive & Thrive: Confidence with Tractors\, Trucks & Trailers\, a hands-on educational program designed to build confidence and strengthen machinery operation skills among beginning and interested operators across Minnesota. \n\nThis is a low-stress opportunity for learners to get behind the wheel of a tractor and a pick-up and learn how to drive forward and in reverse with trailers and implements\, along with overviews of safety features and the maintenance of vehicles. \n\nThe 2026 Drive & Thrive workshops will be held July 18 at the Steele County Community Center in Owatonna\, MN and on July 27 from 2:00 to 6:45 p.m. at the Northwest Research and Outreach Center in Crookston\, with a potential second Crookston session added on July 28 based on demand. The training features 1:1 hands-on driving instruction in a pick-up truck with a trailer and a tractor with an implement. Participants will gain experience in areas such as safely connecting and disconnecting equipment\, driving in reverse with an attached implement or trailer\, understanding tractor controls\, recognizing hazards\, using new technologies\, and applying practical farm safety practices. \n\nDuring the individual one-to-one sessions\, the rest of the participants will complete group activities focused on farm safety and risk management\, along with first aid basics. The fee to attend is $35 per participant and a meal is provided. Registration is limited. 18+ age limit. Register online at z.umn.edu/WAGN. \n\n“Farm machinery and implements can feel intimidating\, especially for those who are newer to operating equipment\,” said Ryan Lermon\, Extension educator. “Drive & Thrive provides a supportive\, low‑pressure environment where participants can learn\, practice\, ask questions\, and ultimately feel safer and more confident on their farm.” \n\nThis program is open to people of any experience level and is sponsored by Compeer Financial. \n\nMore information about farm safety and Extension programs can be found at www.extension.umn.edu.

SUMMARY:"Family History: Fact or Fiction" Program by Sarah Lockwood
DESCRIPTION:The next genealogy club meeting at the Lyon County Museum\, 301 West Lyon Street\, Marshall is Monday\, August 3 at 1:30 PM. Sarah Lockwood will be back to talk about “Family History: Fact or Fiction”\nAbout the Program: Our family histories can be compiled from many different sources. Some information passes down by word of mouth\, some can be authenticated by certificates or other documentation\, and some can be gleaned from others’ work. Learn how to polish your family history to become a verifiable and accurate source of which you can be proud.\nAbout the Speaker: Sarah Lockwood is a proud Minnesotan\, with ancestry from both an adopted family and a birth family. Forensic genealogy has been a personal journey for Sarah. As an adoptee\, she used what she learned about forensic DNA matching to find her own birth mother and father! She turned her love of genealogy into a professional business. SUMMARY:Marshall Area Farmers' Tuesday Mini Market
DESCRIPTION:The Marshall Farmers Market is excited to welcome the community back for another season of fresh produce\, baked goods\, handcrafted items\, and locally grown products. \nThe Saturday Market opens Saturday\, July 11\, and will be held every Saturday through October 31 from 7:30 a.m. to Noon. The market is located behind the Marshall Area YMCA in the Schwan’s Parking Lot at 200 S. A Street\, Marshall\, Minnesota. \nIn addition to the Saturday market\, shoppers can visit the Tuesday Mini Market\, held July 7 through August 25\, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at Terrace 1872\, next to MainStay Cafe in downtown Marshall. \nVisitors will find a variety of locally grown fruits and vegetables\, baked goods\, honey\, flowers\, handcrafted products\, and more while supporting area farmers and small businesses. Live music is scheduled for many Saturdays throughout the summer and early fall\, creating a fun\, family-friendly atmosphere for shoppers. \nThe Marshall Farmers Market proudly accepts EBT/SNAP benefits (formerly food stamps). Through the market’s matching program\, shoppers who spend $10 in EBT/SNAP receive an additional $10 to spend at the market\, doubling their purchasing power for fresh\, local foods. \nThe market also accepts Minnesota Sun Bucks cards. Families who qualify for the state’s Sun Bucks program receive $120 per eligible school-aged child to purchase groceries during the summer months. Sun Bucks cards are also eligible for the market’s matching program\, giving eligible families even more access to fresh\, locally grown foods. \nThe Marshall Farmers Market also offers its popular Power of Produce (PoP) Program every Saturday. There are no income or residency requirements—everyone is welcome to participate. Any child ages 2-16 and any adult 55 and older can receive $4 to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables each Saturday at the market. \nThanks to the generous support of ADM\, the Kids Power of Produce Program has expanded this season. The eligible age range has increased from ages 3-12 to ages 2-16\, and the incentive has doubled from $2 to $4 per child each Saturday. The Senior PoP Program will continue to provide $4 each week for participants ages 55 and older. \nWhile a few vendors accept debit cards or Venmo\, all vendors accept cash\, so shoppers are encouraged to bring cash when visiting the market. There is no ATM on site. \nThe Marshall Farmers Market is grateful for the support of its community partners\, including ADM\, the Marshall Area YMCA\, and CJ Schwan’s\, as well as the many businesses sponsoring live music throughout the season and the volunteers who make the market possible. \nThe Marshall Farmers Market invites everyone to shop local\, meet area farmers and makers\, enjoy live music\, and experience the best of southwest Minnesota throughout the season. \nFor weekly vendor updates\, entertainment schedules\, and market announcements\, follow the Marshall Farmers Market on Facebook at facebook.com/marshallfarmersmarket/.
