In honor of the musical’s real-life themes of community hospitality\, SMSU Entertainment & Theatre Arts is seeking nonperishable food and essential items. We will use collected items on stage as props for the Come From Away performances\, then donate them to our local food shelf and Mustang Market\, SMSU’s permanent food and resource pantry. \n• Acceptable items: Bulky items like paper towels\, toilet paper\, diapers\, cereal\, or large packaged food are preferred. We also accept nonperishable food\, essential items/personal care products\, and cash donations.\n• Drop-off locations: SMSU Founders Hall (first floor)\, SMSU Fine Arts office (FA 207)\, and Marshall-Lyon County Library\n• Deadline: October 16 \nSee how it all comes together! Then join us October 28 through November 1 as we celebrate the selfless acts of kindness done by the people of Gander\, Newfoundland\, when 38 planes landed in their town of 9\,000 following the September 11\, 2001\, attacks. DESCRIPTION:Join us at First Lutheran Church\, Marshall on Wednesday\, Sept 30 at 7:00pm in our sanctuary. \nJessica Vandrovec (formerly Jessica Cousins\, a high school graduate of Marshall in 1997) will be joining the community of Marshall to share her story.\nLosing a child is one of the hardest things a parent could ever go through\, and for many people who have gone through that\, it can be hard to share their story. However\, one Sioux Falls couple has decided to be open and honest about their loss\, to let others know that they are not alone.\n“I don’t want to say that there’s a reason Breley died. Because I would love to have her here\, but it changed us. And she showed us that a two-day old baby showed us what fighting really looks like and what love really is\,” Jessica said.\nThe book Jessica wrote is called ‘HELD’. \n‘HELD’ is a powerful memoir of love\, loss\, and resilience. When premature birth brought twins into the world far too soon\, their family’s journey was forever changed. Through the heartbreak of infant loss and the fragile fight for survival in the NICU\, “HELD” shines a light on the raw reality of parenting in crisis. It is a story of healing\, where grief and hope meet\, and where faith carries a mother through unimaginable valleys. At its heart\, this book is a tribute to the twin bond\, the miracle of survival\, and the unshakable strength found in being held—by family\, community\, and God. \nThis event is free and open to the public.
