The Farm Outlook & Education Seminar is a scholarship fundraiser for students in SMSU’s agriculture programs.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with a welcome and introductions at 9 a.m. Tickets are $75 per person, which includes lunch.

Pre-registration deadline is Feb. 10. The preferred method of registration is online: www.SMSUFoundation.org/farmoutlook2020. Registration can also be mailed to: SMSU Foundation, 1501 State St., Marshall, MN, 56258.

Speakers this year include:

Meg Moynihan is the Senior Advisor for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. From personal experience at her family’s organic dairy farm, she discovered first-hand how stressful life can be as a farmer. In her position as senior advisor, she helps provide resources and coping mechanisms to people struggling with financial, legal, emotional or relationship problems associated with stress.

Josh Pinkernell works for Midwest Hemp Farms in Waseca, Minn., which is under a state pilot project regarding hemp. He has nearly a decade of experience in growing cannabis. He began growing it in Colorado when medical marijuana was legalized and also when the state legalized its recreational use. He is helping with the development of hemp production in Minnesota because the climate is more suitable for outdoor growing than Colorado.

Jim Emter is the CEO of Van Ahn and Company, Inc., which he started in 2003. The company has been assisting producers with risk management techniques since 1987. Their goal is to help commercial operations, producers and end users establish sound, detailed marketing plans.

The Farm Outlook & Education Seminar is sponsored by sustaining affiliates Ag Country Farm Credit Services, Granite Falls Bank, F&M Bank Minnesota, Midwest Ag Enterprises, Minnwest Bank and Ralco Nutrition.
