Eldon Lovro, age 96, of Hendricks, MN passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at the Hendricks Nursing Home in Henricks, MN. Funeral service will be held at 10:30a.m. on Saturday, December 14th at Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks, MN. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7p.m. on Friday, December 13th at Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors will be at the Singsaas Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hendricks. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks, MN has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Eldon Louvaine Lovro was born at home near Hendricks, MN on August 26, 1928 to Even and Laura (Friestad) Lovro. He was baptized and confirmed at Singsaas Lutheran Church. He walked to country school and graduated from Hendricks High School in 1946. Eldon served our country in the US Army during Korean War time being drafted in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was a life time dedicated member of the Reuben Hansen Legion Post. Eldon married Jean Nielsen of Arlington, SD on September 11, 1954. To this union were born three daughters, Carla, Garnet and Susan. Eldon and Jean purchased the Friestad farmstead at rural Astoria where he grain farmed and had a small dairy herd. In 2006 they moved into Hendricks, MN. Eldon enjoyed farming, golfing (into his early 90’s), following Minnesota Vikings and Twins and SDSU sports. Eldon was very meticulous about his yard doing his own mowing until the age of 95. A good visit with family and friends at his home or uptown at the Café with the breakfast crew is where he was at his best. He especially enjoyed when the grandkids came to visit. Eldon was extremely proud of the fact that his grandparents helped establish Singsaas Lutheran Church. He also enjoyed being a part of the “Joy Singers” back in the 1970’s. Music was always a big part of his enjoyment, be it singing in the church choir or listening to Lawrence Welk and polka music.
Eldon will be greatly missed by his family, Carla (Craig) Brock of Hitchcock, SD, Garnet (Todd Test) Volquardsen of Battle Creek, NE and Susan (Bernard) Lampe of Dell Rapids, SD. Eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean in 2010, his parents , in-laws, sister Judith, brothers Gerald and Earl and their wives, Jean’s siblings and their spouses and a nephew, Steve.
