Deloris L. Griffith, age 93, of Canby, MN passed away Friday, August 28, 2020 at the Hendricks Nursing Home in Hendricks, MN. Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2020 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Canby, MN with Rev. Levi Bollerud officiating. Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby in entrusted with the arrangements.
Deloris LaVonne Griffith was born on March 10, 1927 in Canby, Minnesota to Peter C. and Mabel (Paulson) Jesme. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Canby. Deloris was a graduate of Canby High School and attended college in Minneapolis and Rapid City, SD until her marriage to James H. Aure on February 18, 1951. They made their home in Eureka, CA until his death on January 17, 1953. Deloris lived and worked in Arizona for several years where she met and married Calvin C. Griffith in Tucson, AZ on March 2, 1962. They made their home in Farmington, NM where they owned several businesses as well as commercial and rental properties. To help with the businesses, Deloris obtained her insurance license. Calvin passed away on January 12, 1997. Deloris returned to Canby in 2005 to live and more recently resided in Hendricks, MN at the assisted living facilities until her death on August 28, 2020. Deloris was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Canby. She enjoyed raising horses and the a passion and love of competitive horse racing and tending to her flower garden. She treasured her family and friends and enjoyed the visits.
She is survived by her step-son, Scott (Darla) Griffith, step-grandchildren: Justin, Marc, Jr., and Deantha Griffith, as well as many dear nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Deloris was preceded in death by her parents, husbands James and Calvin, brothers: Earnest and Robert (Louise) Jesme and sisters: Mayme (Arnold) Palm, Gladys Jesme, Pearl (Donald) Roske, Bernice (Palmer) Severson and Ruth Jesme; and step-son, Marc Griffith.
