Darlene Evelyn Meyer, former resident of Tyler, MN passed away due to complications of dementia on April 27, 2022, in Des Moines, IA where she resided in Edencrest at Beaverdale. She moved there in September of 2019, to be close to her caretakers, Jan and John Williams.  Darlene was born January 17, 1937, and was adopted at age four when her mother passed away during childbirth. She and her younger brother were adopted by Walter and Alta Olsen from Ortley, SD.  Her education was earned in a country grade school, a freshman year at Canton Academy, and her last three years at Watertown High School where she graduated in 1955. After a few years she moved to Sioux Falls. In 1970, she married Stanley L. Meyer, the love of her life. They lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she worked for Medtronics Blood Systems. She was very proud of her work on heart valves.  When Stan retired in 1987, they moved to Tyler, MN near Stan’s childhood home. They enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, and taking trips in their camper. When Stan’s health declined, she was a dedicated caregiver until his death in December of 1995.  While in Tyler, Darlene had numerous jobs. She was a hard worker and a friend to so many. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton, MN. She was also active in the VFW and other activities in Tyler. Her strong faith helped her through difficult times in her life. She will be missed by those who have known her.

She is survived by her nephew; two nieces; several cousins and their children; as well as close friends, Jan and John Williams and Marj King. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stan; two step sons; her brother, Don; and a close cousin, Ilene Jacobsen whom Darlene always considered a sister.  We want to thank the Edencrest at Beaverdale staff for their loving care of Darlene throughout the two years and seven months she resided there. She often praised how kind they were to her.

Memorials may be sent to Edencrest Beaverdale Activities: Attn: Julie Smith, 3410 Beaver Ave., Des Moines, IA 50310.
