Daniel “Dan” Hofman, age 87, of Clear Lake, SD passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Deuel County Good Samaritan Society. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, August 30, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Clear Lake, SD. Visitation will be Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Clear Lake, SD.
Daniel Dick Hofman was born September 29, 1933 at the family farm in Brandt township in Deuel County South Dakota to Dick and Phyllis (Cook) Hofman. He lived on the farm southeast of Clear Lake until moving to the farm northeast of Clear Lake in 1946. Dan was baptized into the First Baptist Church where he remained a lifelong member holding many offices through the years. He attended school at District 22 and district 18 where he graduated from 8th grade. He farmed with his father on the family farm and also after purchasing his farm southwest of Clear Lake. He enlisted in the Navy in 1956. They moved to Clear Lake in 1966 but continued to farm together. Dan drove school bus for many years after moving to town. He worked for Fritz Chevrolet picking up cars from other dealerships for many years. Dan enjoyed reading about old cars and machinery. He especially liked attending tractor pulls and threshing bees whenever he could. He was an avid farm auction fan and attended many in the area. He always drove a nice car and enjoyed long rides looking at the countryside. He enjoyed many winters in Texas.
He is survived by five sisters: Ruth Berndt, White, SD, Donna (Ruben) Rieger, Gettysburg, SD, Carol Madsen, Sioux Falls, SD, Mildred Hack, Omaha, Nebraska, and Barbara (William) Schiefelbein, Clear Lake, SD; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers in law: Eldred Madsen, Clinton Berndt, and Walt Hack.
