REDWOOD FALLS (KMHL) – Big changes are on the way for the Redwood-Renville recycling center and the future of recycling and garbage hauling in the two counties, but most of the changes will be made on the back end, so they won’t have much impact on the general public.

Yesterday, the Redwood-Renville Regional Solid Waste Authority Board approved an agreement to outsource the processing and hauling of garbage and recycling with West Central Sanitation starting in January of 2020.

According to a press release from the board, the deal will reduce expenses and increase services in the two counties. The recycling center will remain open, but will no longer be processing recyclables on site.

The facility has been dealing with an increasing annual deficit due to the declining recycling market values.

The changes are expected to result in about 15 job losses at the facility. Redwood and Renville Counties are assisting displaced employees with outplacement services.
