Mass of Christian Burial for Bernice Fischer, 82, of Marshall, will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2023, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be Sunday, March 12, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a CCW Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Interment will take place at St. Eloi Catholic Cemetery in Ghent.
Bernice Marie (Louwagie) Fischer was born on November 22, 1940, in Green Valley, MN, to Camiel and Magdeline (Polman) Louwagie. She graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1958 and St. Gabriel’s School of Nursing in 1961. In 1963, she was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Fischer at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley. To this union were born children Daniel, Lynn, Gary and Lori. The couple raised their family on a farm north of Lynd. Bernice’s family, grandchildren and neighbors were the enjoyments of her life. She really enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. Bernice was a woman of great faith. She lived out her faith and this manifested with her selfless care for others. She volunteered in many capacities including as a chaperone for many school field trips, taught CCD and served on the Prairie Home Hospice Board of Directors. She belonged to the Westside Club for many years and Catholic Daughters of America. Bernice also enjoyed baking treats for any visitors stopping by, working in her yard, flower gardening, bird watching and her vineyard. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Bernice created many afghans for family and friends, and baby caps for newborns at the hospital.
Bernice died on Wednesday, Mar 8, 2023, under hospice care at her home in Marshall. She is survived by her husband, Charles, of Marshall, son Daniel (Jan) Fischer of Lynd, daughter Lynn (Ron) McGrane of Eagan, son Gary Fischer of Minneapolis, daughter Lori (Chris) Nigbur of Shakopee; grandchildren Matthew, (Whitney) Fischer, Melissa Fischer, Nicholas (Katie) Fischer, Kathryn Teague, David (Samantha) Fischer, John Nordin (Kallie Larson), Eliana Nordin, Emily McGrane (Jake Bonwell), Andrea McGrane (Riley Nemec), Jessica and Benjamin Nigbur; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings Darlene Weber (Jim Lindquist) of Mesa, AZ, Shirley Schulz (Rick Perry) of Portland, ME, brother-in-law Richard Vroman of Milroy, sister-in-law Catherine Louwagie of Marshall, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ernest Louwagie and George Louwagie, sister Helen Vroman, and sister-in-law Jane Louwagie, and her great grandchild, Charlie Richard Fischer.
