Bernice Benz, age 94, of Hendricks, MN passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at the Hendricks Nursing Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks, MN. Visitation will be Friday, October 6, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks, MN. Burial will be at the Hendricks City Cemetery. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel of Hendricks, MN is entrusted with the arrangements.
Bernice Ann Benz was born December 20, 1928, in Lincoln County, Minnesota to Frank and Genevieve (Sik) Tomaszewski. She attended the Catholic School in Wilno, Minnesota. On August 6, 1955, Bernice and Donald Benz were married in Hendricks, Minnesota. They lived and raised their eight children in the Hendricks area. Bernice was a housewife and homemaker. Bernice also worked in restaurants, did housekeeping, upholstering and sewing. She enjoyed music, quilting, reading, sewing, gardening, embroidery, putting puzzles together and playing bingo, but most of all, she enjoyed her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Hendricks. Bernice passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at the Hendricks Nursing Home at the age of 94. Bernice will always be remembered for her love and dedication to her family, for being feisty, honest, for her sense of humor, and for her delicious fried chicken.
Bernice is survived by her children: Richard (Josie) Benz, Sioux Falls, SD, Allen (Beverly) Benz, Canby, MN, David (Kari) Benz, Sioux Falls, SD, Sandy Giles, Willow Lake, SD, Todd Benz, Hendricks, MN, and James (Sharla) Benz, Hendricks, MN; sons-in-law: Jim Eastman, Ivanhoe, MN, and Paul Sterzinger, Ivanhoe, MN; twenty grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; one sister, Audrey Jerzak, Canby, MN; sisters-in-law: Gayle Tomaszewski and Nina Benz; brother-in-law: Dareld (Carol) Benz and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald, two daughters, Geraldine and Rose Ann and three brothers.
