WORTHINGTON (LEARFIELD) – Elected leaders and state officials are speaking in Worthington today about the challenges facing hog farmers during the coronavirus pandemic (Wednesday 1 p-m).

U-S House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson is hosting the news conference along with Governor Tim Walz, Iowa Congressman Steve King, State Veterinarian Beth Thompson and Minnesota Ag Commissioner Thom Petersen.

They’re expected to call for federal assistance with testing, protective equipment, sanitization and contingency planning along the food supply chain.

The backup of hogs has left some producers with no recourse but to begin euthanizing healthy pigs.
