MINNEAPOLIS (LEARFIELD) – If you’re taking a trip for the 4th of July this week, you’ll be far from lonely.
“We are expecting nearly 49 million people to hit the roads and air,” said Meredith Terpstra of Triple-A Minnesota.
Terpstra (terps-truh) says that’s a four-percent increase from last year and the highest volume of travelers they’ve seen since they began tracking holiday travel in 2000.
“Lower gas prices compared to last year, low unemployment, robust consumer spending and rising disposable income are all encouraging consumers to go ahead and invest in travel this summer,” said Terpestra.
The majority of people across the country will be traveling by car, about 41 million, while another four million are expected to fly to their destinations.
