MANKATO (LEARFIELD) – Veteran homelessness is effectively ended in southeastern Minnesota according to three key federal agencies — and Governor Tim Walz said in Mankato yesterday (Thurs) that he wants the same in the rest of the state as soon as possible.
Walz says he won’t set an arbitrary date because it’s about doing it right:
“If that happens later this year, (if) it happens next year, our sense of urgency remains the same: every veteran off the streets,” said Walz.
A state registry shows in early July there were 216 homeless veterans in Minnesota. Walz says the state has a strategy and plan to get those vets into housing.
