The Southwest Minnesota State Mustang volleyball team is starting the season pre-season ranked number six in the nation according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Pre-season poll.
Football camp is open and underway for the Marshall Tigers. The Tigers are coming off of one of their most successful years in recent history, finishing 9-1, while going undefeated through the regular season.
The Southwest Minnesota State Mustang football team reported to camp on Friday, and held conditioning drills over the weekend, well the preparations continue today through Wednesday before they dawn the full pads for practice.
The Milroy Yankees have locked up the number one seed in Region 11C. They did that with a 1-0 victory over Raymond.
Austin Deutz went the distance for the Yankees, giving up one run on four hits on the afternoon. Milroy didn't get a ton of offense off of Raymond starter Jordan Smith, but got the big hits when they needed them.
The Marshall A's were knocked off in the Section 7B Tournament on Saturday by the Sauk Rapids Cyclones on Saturday 3-2, ending the A's season. Nate Dickhausen started for Marshall he pitched eight innings, and as relieved by Brandon Wilhelmi in the 9th.
Dickhausen gave up all three runs to the Cyclones and was tagged with the loss.
Scott Lochner and Tommy Wippler each hit doubles in the game.
Cody Curry led the Marshall offense, he was 2-4 at the plate.
Marshall native Tony Krogen shot a seven over par, 78 Monday to finish in a tie for 17th after the second round of the sectional qualifying tournament for the US Amateur Championship.
The Great Plains Open got underway yesterday at the Marshall Golf Course. 66-pros from the Dakota Tour opened up the tournament yesterday at the course.
