Meeting will be held on January 28th at 6:30pm in the basement of the Law Enforcement Center in Marshall. Avera Tyler will host a community blood drive on Wednesday, January 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The public will have an opportunity to donate blood to impact patients’ lives in the area. Benefit at Lakeview during the boy's basketball game on January 30th. Walking Tacos 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm $5.00 for meal (During the Lakeview vs TMB Boy’s Basketball Game) Silent Auction 4:30 pm - 8:15 pm Bidding closes at 8:15 pm on January 30th Proceeds go to Landyn’s family for expenses related to his heart condition and future transplant. Landyn is a 12 year old (6th grader) who collasped at Lakeview Schools on Nov 15. He was diagnosied with a life threatening heart condition and is currently waiting for a transplant.

The Southwest Minnesota State University Music Program will host “Brass-a-Palooza” on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the campus of SMSU. The event is a celebration of brass music and learning and is open to all area brass players, regardless of age, experience or ability. Brass-a-Polooza will feature guest artist Mark Hetzler, along with his innovative band Mr. Chair. Marlene Jezierski, sister of the late SMSU alumnus and disability advocate Michael Bjerkesett, will read from her book about his life on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at noon in the William Whipple Gallery, located in the McFarland Library at SMSU. The book, which is self-published, is entitled “When Your Legs are Wheels.” Bjerkesett was a pioneer of handicap accessible housing and a 1971 Charter Class alumnus. The 36th annual Farm Outlook & Education Seminar will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 9 a.m.-2:45 p.m. in the Conference Center Ballroom on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University. The Farm Outlook & Education Seminar is a scholarship fundraiser for students in SMSU’s agriculture programs. Three speakers with broad agriculture backgrounds will highlight the event. Donating blood during the winter is extremely important in order to maintain an adequate blood supply for the community. Hendricks Community Hospital will host a community blood drive on Monday, February 17 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The public will have an opportunity to donate blood to help local patients in the hospital during the winter months. Author Jim Heynen will read from his work at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26 in Charter Hall 201 on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University. His appearance, sponsored by the Creative Writing Program, is part of the Visiting Writers Series at SMSU. Heynen is best known for his short stories.
