Mustang Ice Classic
The second annual Mustang Ice Classic will be held Saturday, Feb. 15 on Lake Sarah. The contest will feature over $10,000 in prizes, according to Mike VanDrehle, Alumni Director and event organizer. “We had our inaugural tournament in 2019 and it drew a good crowd of ice fishing enthusiasts. It’s a popular winter activity in southwest Minnesota, and we’re looking forward to our second tournament, which will raise scholarship dollars for SMSU students,” said VanDrehle. Southwest Minnesota State University will commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, Jan. 20 with an event entitled “Now is the Needed Time,” from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Charter Hall 201 on campus. The event will feature the Twin Cities Gospel Choir, keynote speaker Leslie-Burl McLemore and a local children’s choir. The multi-cultural group Twin Cities Gospel Choir started in 1990 with its first-place win at the Minnesota State Fair. Marshall Food4Kids: Applebee’s Flapjack Fundraiser
An Applebee's Flapjack Fundraiser to benefit Marshall Food4Kids will be Saturday, January 25 from 8 to 10 a.m. at Applebee’s Marshall – 1510 E. College Dr. Breakfast includes Pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, coffee, and juice. Adult tickets are $8 in advance ($10 at the door); children 12 and under are $5. Tickets can be purchased online at www.MarshallFood4Kids.org.

The 63rd Montevideo Band Carnival
The 63rd Montevideo Band Carnival is just around the corner. This years carnival will be held Saturday, January 25 from 3:00 to 7:00pm at the Montevideo High School Gym. The event features carnival games, bounce houses, silent auction, snow cones, bake sale, chow line and the best cake walk in Western Minnesota. Live music provided by the members of the High School Pep Band. Proceeds from the carnival support the Montevideo High School band program.

Walking Tacos 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm $5.00 for meal (During the Lakeview vs TMB Boy’s Basketball Game) Silent Auction 4:30 pm - 8:15 pm Bidding closes at 8:15 pm on January 30th Proceeds go to Landyn’s family for expenses related to his heart condition and future transplant. Landyn is a 12 year old (6th grader) who collasped at Lakeview Schools on Nov 15. He was diagnosied with a life threatening heart condition and is currently waiting for a transplant.
