Entenza Says Its Time To Toss Out No Child Left Behind

DFL Gubinatorial Candidate Matt Entenza says its time to get rid of the No Child Left Behind Law. Entenza says it has been terrible for the classrooms and inaccurately labels schools as failures. "I feel its crucial for Marshall area schools and schools throughout the region that we scrap No Child Left Behind," said Entenza. "It labels schools as failing, when they are not, and I think its a mandate from Washington DC we need to get rid of." Entenza says its important to have accountability in schools, but he proposes reducing the tests from five down to one. He says the No Child Left Behind Law hasn't given real accountability to schools. "They'll test a group of 3rd graders one year, and a totally different group of third graders the next year, and if the scores go down they'll say Marshall Area Schools are failing schools," said Entenza. "Anyone who has kids knows that one group of kids isn't the same as another group of kids." Entenza has been focusing his message on parts of the state he has the strongest support, including southwestern Minnesota where he is originally from. Marshall Mayor Bob Byrnes said last week with the campaign for Governor going on it was good to see candidates paying attention to the community and issues in southwestern Minnesota.
