Lyon County Gets Grant For Radio Update
Plans to update Lyon County's emergency radio system received a major boost. The county was notified it had been accepted to receive a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters grant for more than 400-thousand dollars for the purchase of new radios for every fire and ambulance department in Lyon County. There is a 15-percent match required that cities must meet for the grant, but that will bring the total funding for the radios to nearly a half-million dollars. Lyon County was one of only two counties in southwest Minnesota to receive the grant, Murray County was the other. The new radio system will also be compatible with other surrounding counties who have already updated their radios.
